I ridden my last three horses bridless.  My old horse I would jump him 3'9...and he would do it better without the bridle  Cheesy.

I just get them use to neck reining and leg pressure then take the plunge!  I just use a lead rope around there neck for a handle and steering.  It's fun, and after it you have a whole new connection with your horse.

Health yes.  Life....maybe?  ;-)  We'll do it in an enclosed space and I'll wear helmet + vest.  It's ON!

Wait, maybe I should actually ride her first!  Ha ha.  Ya know, normal, make sure she's not an evil satanic beast.

I rode my old man Smokey without saddle or bridle.  I could ride him with just my legs and seat, but he also had voice commands.  All I had to do was murmur "Ho" and he would screech to a halt.  No legs or seat needed, just STOP.  That was my safety with him.  But I do agree with everyone else that they have to be a good boy/girl.  Not one that will mess with you when they feel like it.  I wouldn't ride my guy now like that, he likes to decide every once in a while that we are going to do things HIS way.  Then we have to have a discussion about it, and I don't think I would win that discussion without a bridle.  Maybe in a RP, if I were feeling brave and had already worked the snot out of him!

I love riding bridleless.  I rode Romeo alot without a bridle.  In a controled environment of course.  And I did usually have something around his neck just in case.  One day he was playing in the arena and found a hula hoop.  He of course picked it up and was scared poopless when it made noise (whatever it is they put in those things).  Well after much curiosity and a little coaxing from me I hopped on and rode him with the hula hoop around his neck.  I put alot of time and training to make sure he was 100% leg and seat responsive before I ever took the bridle off though.  It is a very freeing feeling.  And it impresses people!  :-)

My horses are my sanity in my insane world.  At least that is what they tell me.

RIP Romeo - you will be forever missed!
